Holy Cross College… And, What’s About It!
In 1950, Holy Cross College started its journey with five students. The Founder Principal was Sister Augustine Marie, CSC, a Sister of the Congregation of Holy Cross which was founded by Blessed Moreau in France. The noble idea of founding a Women’s College in the then East Pakistan was that of Archbishop Lawrence Graner, CSC, who realized the need for women’s education and their empowerment, very especially, for developing women’s leadership in the country. Since today, Holy Cross College is serving this purpose successfully and is able to actualize the dream and expectations of its Pioneers.
Holy Cross College believes that through its endeavors, to foster the intellectual, moral and physical development of the whole person within a community, invites and encourages a deepening relationship with one’s Creator and with others, along with, a firm commitment to the creation of a society founded on justice, love and peace.
We contribute to the development of a spirit of intellectual enquiry and a desire for truth, and, at the same time, assist in the search for an assumption of responsible roles in society.
We believe that each person is a unique human being created and endowed by the Creator with a variety of talents and abilities which can be discovered and nurtured within a learning environment, in which, all are challenged to personal growth and mutual responsibility. We strive to provide a community of learning in which each person is helped to reach maturity by developing an interior freedom which contributes to the transformation of society.
Our aim, at both the breadth of vision and the creativity necessary to address the challenges of our day, commits our time and the energy necessary to facilitate the integration of the many dimensions of the learning experience in the vision of life.
We seek to improve the professional competence and the development of women in and through our education programs.
We acknowledge our responsibility to educate all women, the poor, the marginalized.
Keeping these goals and objectives, Holy Cross College is willing to take any kind of risk to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing world.
Our Founder Principal, Sister Augustine Marie said:
No one works alone; therefore, no one succeeds alone.
… happiness lies in forgetting self and serving others.
So it is our joint venture – it is our dedication and commitment to educate young women.
May God continue to bless us and all of our endeavors in bringing forth the transformation of young women’s hearts and minds.
